Exploiting Vaccinations

Image
"Yet even as rival financial center Hong Kong presses forward with easing travel and other restrictions for vaccinated residents -- despite its overall lower rate of coverage -- Singapore hasn’t made clear its path to the post-pandemic era with a timeline or details, for reasons likely ranging from the city’s low infection rate to its uncertain political transition. The stalemate is causing tension. On the ground, businesses, residents and even doctors are pushing for bolder action, with some physicians saying the medical system can cope if any moves lead to a rise in cases. In the latest flareup, infections were less likely to lead to severe illnesses than in the past thanks to protection offered by the vaccines." https://www.thestar.com.my/aseanplus/aseanplus-news/2021/06/29/singapore-grapples-with-reopening-plans-as-its-rivals-move-on It is strange that Singapore does not want to exploit its vaccination success in opening up its economy and yet took unnecessary risks in th...

NEWS YOURSAY | Slow vaccination: Don’t blame other countries, KJ Yoursay 24 Jun 2021, 8:12 am Updated 2 d ago 25 A + A - YOURSAY  |   ‘It’s all about planning. If you fail to plan, you are actually planning to fail.’ KJ lashes out at global vaccine inequity after Hungary comparison Apa Nama:  Whatever we could say about this vaccine supply, whether we support coordinating minister for National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin or not, we cannot run away from one thing - our leaders should know that we are facing a health emergency. This is what you have done with this vaccination programme from the begi...

Endemic state cannot be achieved without Herd-immunity

"In  epidemiology , an  infection  is said to be  endemic  (from  Greek  ἐν  en  "in, within" and δῆμος  demos  "people") in a  population  when that infection is constantly maintained at a baseline level in a geographic area without external inputs. [1]  For example,  chickenpox  is endemic (steady state) in the United Kingdom, but  malaria  is not. Every year, there are a few cases of malaria reported in the UK, but these do not lead to sustained transmission in the population due to the lack of a suitable  vector  (mosquitoes of the genus  Anopheles ). " https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endemic_(epidemiology) What it means is that R0 is 1. You should notice that you cannot achieve R0 to be around 1 if there is no herd immunity. Let me remind readers that herd immunity is not only for those who are (1) vaccinated. They include those who have recovered from the disease and have ...
